The Process
Our intention is to have you and your family as a client for life. While every remodeling project is different; each project is started with a great deal of care and planning. TW Carpentry has learned through the years that the planning phase of any project is one of the most importance phases in remodeling. To accommodate this importance we designed a system called, “The Process.”
Because projects range in size, costs and other variables TW Carpentry begins every project with total flexibility. This means that “The Process” is not written in stone and is easily adjusted to meet your needs. “The Process” no matter what the project is, touches on key topics that are essential for a well planned, well run, and well completed project. “The Process” is an easy flowing system because we invested our time to prepare checklists that aid and guide not only TW Carpentry, but also you- the homeowner. A complicated process is made easier with the checklist- much like a airline pilot before take-off. Below is a description of what to expect when working with a company that devoted itself to remodeling.
Contact and Visit
With our first conversation TW Carpentry wants to be sure that we are the right contractor for you. Questions asked include a brief description of the project, timeframe of when you want the project started and completed and general contact information. From this point we will set up the first visit.
At our visit we start to discuss the project in more specific terms and continue with our mutual interview- to make sure we are a comfortable fit. We’ll also discuss and consider the following topics:
- Desires and ideas- what do you like or dislike about your home
- Purpose of project- Add space, increase efficiency or improve appearance
- Possible designs and different scopes of work
- Project budget and scheduling
One of the most important aspects of our first meeting is to establish a budget and consider an investment amount. Discussing the budget at our first visit ensures that the project scope is within the realm of your desired budget.
Design and Preparation
This is possibly the most important aspect of a remodeling project- planning. It goes beyond a drawing or list of material. This part of the system involves all aspects from scheduling the demolition work, to doing the final clean-up. All projects require a complete set of specifications. While some projects require a set of professionally prepared plans such as an addition or whole house remodel. If plans are needed, a designer or architect will be contacted and consulted, and a Scope of Work Agreement will be prepared. The Scope of Work Agreement is similar to a design contract and covers all the ideas and specifics of the project that have been discussed.
After the Scope of Work has been agreed to, and any drawings or plans are created, a second meeting is conducted. This second meeting is where all the specialty trade contractors get to visit the project location – your home and meet you. Electrical and plumbing contractors (to name a few) will inspect your project and make suggestions. They will then be able to prepare a detailed and accurate proposal which will be forwarded to TW Carpentry, Inc.
Also included in this phase is the Material Selection Process. TW Carpentry simplifies the remodeling process by having all major selections made up front before the first nail is driven. The TW Carpentry checklists that have been prepared are of great importance and become our “Shopping List”. TW Carpentry will bring samples to you, chauffeur you to showrooms and present you with literature and information to help you make the best selections that account for what you want, at your budget. The selection process is the fun part for most clients, because you will start to see your idea come to life, and you are able to touch and see the end result for the first time.
The final aspect of the Design and Preparation Phase is the acceptance of the Remodeling Proposal, and the creation of the Remodeling Agreement. This is where our detailed expertise surpasses all other contractors. The accepted proposal is converted into an agreement that outlines all aspects of the remodeling process. All sizes, textures, brand names and techniques are covered. The schedule is presented along with the plans (if needed) and the 24/7 contact list- which is your information hotline. The agreement covers the responsibilities of all parties involved. This includes the responsibilities of TW Carpentry, the subcontractors and you- the home owner. Because of the careful and deliberate planning the next phase of “The Process” is simplified.
Production
The production phase starts with one final meeting called the Pre-Construction Conference. This is one meeting that sets the tone for the project and again covers all topics from where material will be stored to verifying what color the nail putty will be. It is worth mentioning that TW Carpentry covers all these details to ensure you know what to expect, remodeling can be a troubleshooting process at times, and by hiring TW Carpentry the troubles are kept to a minimum.
From the Pre-Construction Conference we go to making your dreams reality and taking care of the problems. All the dedication to planning, and all the visits and meetings pay off at this point. Daily communication takes precedence. When an unknown condition presents itself or a change order is required, we inform you without hesitation. Keeping work areas and your property clean is of utmost importance. Working with you to complete your project as specified and on time is our governing goal.
Closing the Project
As your project nears completion we complete a walk-thru with you and your family. TW Carpentry will show you how items work and function, we will discuss any care or maintenance, and what to expect in the near and far future as you enjoy your finished project. Questions will be answered and minor finishing touches can be addressed. This is the time of the project when we both can take great pride in all our hard work together. For TW Carpentry seeing a customer smile and be happy is our greatest reward.
Our goal is to have you and your family as a customer for life. Working through our process takes a little time up front to ensure the project is completed smoothly. This in turn allows our relationship to continue and you to enjoy your remodeling project for many years.
